Anticipated Wii Games of Q2 2010

The second quarter of 2010 contains a lot of solid releases. Will we ever have time to catch up on our backlog? More and more, it’s looking like the answer is a big, fat “no”. However, you might find a few games from Q1 that have snuck in thanks to delays. What you’ll see below is a collection of the WingDamage staff’s most anticipated Wii games of Q2 2010.

Metroid: Other M

“If you were to go to your dictionary and look up the word awesome, there would be a picture of Samus. If there is not, then your dictionary is obviously defective and you should throw it away. Team Ninja is also awesome. I couldn’t understand my physics professor because of her accent and the fact that I was playing Tetris on my graphing calculator, but I am pretty sure that Awesome + Awesome = Metroid: Other M. Breaking away from the first person perspective of the Prime series, Other M uses a more traditional side scrolling style with a twist. You can shift to 3D at any time as you explore a derelict space station in the most cinematic entry in the series yet. You can actually (gasp!) hear Samus speak for the first time. This is almost as exciting as when the cute girl that works at Cinnabon spoke to you for the first time.” -Dave

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor

“The is the ‘dream sequel’ to the import cult classic, Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Earth. Judging by the trailers, though, a more accurate title would be Sin & Punishment: Star Fox 64 Successor. With the addition of flying (via a jetpack or hoverboard depending on the character), Treasure takes the sequel in a much more agile direction. Players will be able to move in all directions in this new, over-the-top rail shooter as they reflect missiles bigger than themselves back at the giant, ridiculous monsters they came from. And if the level of challenge Treasure is known for isn’t enough (spoiler: it will be), you can aim for the high score on the game’s online leaderboards.” -Jesse

Super Mario Galaxy 2

“Taking the blueprint from the classic Super Mario 64 and refining the heck out of it, the original Mario Galaxy is one of the best games on the Wii. The sequel might seem like a ‘no duh’ no brainer, but it has been years since the Big N has given us a true sequel to one of its Mario games. We never got a Mario 64 2 or a Mario Sunshine 2. This is Nintendo’s chance to show us what it can do and I for one can’t wait.” -Dave

Monster Hunter Tri (3)

Monster Hunter Tri (3) Anticipated Wii Games of Q2 2010

“The Monster Hunter series has been a staple of the PSP, especially in Japan. While the games are fun single player, they really shine when you can get a party of friends together to go take down giant monsters. The new, Wii version allows you to play split screen for some couch co-op, or go online and play with up to four of your friends. Since Capcom is using their own servers, you won’t even have to deal with friend codes! Monster Hunter Tri looks like it could quite possibly be this console generation’s Phantasy Star Online. Check out our hands-on impressions!-Jonah

Trauma Team

“If you have ever picked up a scalpel in any of the Trauma Center games, then you know that saving a life can be a tough and gripping experience. With a more realistic story and procedures, Trauma Team gets rid of the more ridiculous aspects of previous entries. Trauma Team also expands the gameplay beyond surgery with six modes ranging from First Response to Endoscopy. Now you can satisfy your inner doctor without that annoying decade of schooling.” -Dave

Arc Rise Fantasia

“If you’re anything like me, you miss traditional, turn-based JRPGs on consoles. Arc Rise Fantasia is here to help fill the void that all the fast-paced battle systems of our day have left in us. This 60-hour epic has you engage enemies in a unique battle system where you must chose who to use each turn. Whether you use one character multiple times or all of your characters once is entirely up to you and your strategic plans. With my all-time favorite videogame composer, Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger), contributing to the soundtrack, you can expect a memorable score. This is the game old-school JRPG fans have been waiting for.” -Jesse

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

“Now that the Prince has been officially Gyllenhaaled, Ubisoft is returning the series to the storyline from the critically acclaimed Xbox and PS2 releases. The Forgotten Sands finally reveals what happened in the seven year gap between Sands of Time and Warrior Within that transformed the happy go lucky prince into a brooding bad ass. The PoP series has excelled at offering gripping platforming mixed with fun accessible combat and this inter-quel looks to continue that tradition.

(Notes on the Wii version – The Wii version is being developed separately and features different gameplay than the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Also, the Wii will include co-op and my mind is already buzzing with the thought of sending my buddy Nate to his death.)” -Dave

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4

“With a style all their own and a sense of humor to match, the LEGO games have proven themselves to be a pure joy. Couple that with the magic of Harry Potter and the result should be amazing. Gamers of all ages can finally explore a LEGO-fied Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.” -Dave
