Anticipated Wii Games of Q3 2010
Ok, so Metroid: Other M didn’t come out last quarter. Is anybody really that surprised it got delayed? Fortunately, we get it in the third quarter (we hope) along with a slew of other promising titles. Head past the break for our full list of anticipated Wii games for Q3 2010.
Metroid: Other M [Hands-On Impressions]
“If you were to go to your dictionary and look up the word “awesome”, there would be a picture of Samus. If there is not, then your dictionary is obviously defective and you should throw it away. Team Ninja is also awesome. I couldn’t understand my physics professor because of her accent and the fact that I was playing Tetris on my graphing calculator, but I am pretty sure that Awesome + Awesome = Metroid: Other M.
Breaking away from the first person perspective of the Prime series, Other M uses a more traditional side-scrolling style with a twist. You can shift to 3D at any time as you explore a derelict space station in the most cinematic entry in the series yet. You can actually (gasp!) hear Samus speak for the first time. This is almost as exciting as when the cute girl that works at Cinnabon spoke to you for the first time.” -Dave
Samurai Warriors 3
“Samurai Warriors 3 lets you and a buddy (local or online) hack and slash your way through hundreds of enemies throughout feudal Japan. Not stingy on content, the game features 37 playable characters (30 of which have their own unique story mode), tons of upgradable weapons and armor, a character creator, and several different modes of play including one based on Nintendo’s own Nazo no Murasamejō. Unleash powerful team attacks with a friend as you try to claim as much territory as possible.” -Jesse
Batman: The Brave and the Bold [Hands-On Impressions]
“When I saw the screenshots for Batman: The Brave and the Bold, it immediately brought me back to my time busting baddies as the Caped Crusader back on the SNES with The Adventures of Batman & Robin.
Based on the cartoon of the same name, the co-op brawler teams Batman up with the likes of Green Lantern, Plastic Man, Blue Beetle, Aquaman, and of course, Robin.
You can even connect the DS edition with the Wii version to bring the all-powerful Bat-Mite in on the action. I enjoy a good brawler and am looking forward to teaming up with a buddy to crack some criminal skulls.” -Jonah
Arc Rise Fantasia
“If you’re anything like me, you miss traditional, turn-based JRPGs on consoles. Arc Rise Fantasia is here to help fill the void that all the fast-paced battle systems of our day have left in us. This 60-hour epic has you engage enemies in a unique battle system where you must chose who to use each turn. Whether you use one character multiple times or all of your characters once is entirely up to you and your strategic plans.
With my all-time favorite videogame composer, Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger), contributing to the soundtrack, you can expect a memorable score. This is the game old-school JRPG fans have been waiting for.” -Jesse
Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions
“Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions looks to take everyone’s favorite wall-crawler in a very different direction. Instead of the same open-world city that we’ve been treated to since Spider-man 2, developer Beenox is crafting a tale that will blend together four unique takes on the old web-head. Each “universe” features a different gameplay style which should help to keep things fresh. As a comic fan, I am excited to see these different Spider-mans in action.” -Dave
Lost in Shadow
“Lost in Shadow is a unique take on the platformer genre. Rather than traversing the obvious terrain the level presents, you’ll have to make it across the shadows in the background cast by it. Objects in the foreground can be rotated and moved around to alter the shadows you must travel across.
With platforming and sword dueling reminiscent of classic Prince of Persia games, mind-bending puzzles along the lines of Echochrome, and a visual style similar to Ico, Lost in Shadow seems to have all the key ingredients of an interesting title.” -Jesse
Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest
“When screenshots of ‘Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest were initially leaked, the internet was quick to poke fun. ‘Hey look at that dumb baby game for the Wii’ some random forum troll likely said.
I prefer to go into a game wanting to have a good time rather than looking for reasons to tear it down. The overtly cartoonish look of Aragorn’s Quest may be a turn off for some, but stylized graphics have thus far been the Wii’s strong point.
Combine that with what looks to be a fun, all-ages adventure and TT Fusion might just have the next iteration of their popular Lego-style games on their hands. Oh, and did I mention there is drop-in drop-out co-op where the second player gets to be Gandalf? When has that ever been a bad thing?” -Jonah
