Game Idea: Mayor Mike Haggar
The WingDamage staff spends way too much of their time thinking about and playing video games.
Game Ideas are a series of random articles where members of the WingDamage staff propose their own ideas for a video game. Most of the game ideas featured on the site are for entirely new games with new mechanics. But some ideas are just too awesome to keep to yourself.
Mayor Mike Haggar stars the incomparable Mike Haggar of Final Fight fame at his day job. Besides having a glorious mustache and the ability to lay a whoopin’ on hundreds of thugs, Mike Haggar spends his days mayoring the heck out of his city. This game would let us experience the other side of Mr. Haggar.
The game would play like Sim City meets Final Fight. You are responsible for zoning laws and the cities infrastructure. You will decide tax rates and where to place public parks. You know, all the things that a mayor should be doing.
“Sounds like you are just ripping off Sim City?”, you say in that mocking tone of yours.
Well Mr. Doubter, Mike Haggar is not your typical mayor. Most mayors aren’t going to pile drive your face if you get out of line. When things get heated, his hands on approach separates him from the crowd.
When crime rates get too high in an area, you can increase taxes and hire more police, or you can clean up the streets Final Fight style. In these sections Haggar hits the town and takes out the bad guys in a side scrolling brawler. Punches, kicks, and his patented Pile Driver will send those thugs packing.
“Sounds pretty simple right?”, I ask in a patient and understanding tone.
Well, Internet, things can get even crazier. Giant monsters, barbarian hordes, and pirates will all randomly threaten to destroy your city. It is up to Haggar to take them out.You have a variety of kicks, punches, and wrestling moves at your disposal as you walk to the right beating the crap out of your enemies. If you have ever played Final Fight (or any side scrolling brawler) you get the idea. Everyone in your way needs a beat down, and any meat you find on the ground will heal you.
Haggar uses his bare hands to fight off monsters and barbarian hordes, but when tornadoes strike, he has to use his patented pile driver to “drive” that tornado right out of town. To stop an Earthquake, Haggar will punch the ground so hard the Earth will surrender.
If you fight well enough and can save enough of your constituents, maybe they’ll re-elect you at the end of your term. If they don’t, then it’s Game Over.
I think this game will appeal to people that follow politics, and those who enjoy punching earthquakes in the face.
