Listen to the Sound of Speed with OCR’s New Sonic the Hedgehog Remix Album
In 2005, the OverClocked ReMix community took on the challenge of remixing the entire soundtrack to Sonic The Hedgehog 2 with Hedgehog Heaven. In 2006, they arranged the music of Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles with Project Chaos.
Now, almost five years later, the remix trilogy will finally be complete with The Sound of Speed, an album of new interpretations of the music from the original Sonic the Hedgehog. The thirteen track album marks the community’s 25th project release.
With fifteen different contributing artists, you’ll find a variety of genres including rock, bossa nova, electronica, and funk fusion. As with all OCR albums, you can download it completely free of charge. Go to the official site to grab it or check out the trailer below.

Yaro Kasear says:I like it okay, but for the most part it’s not as good as the first two albums they did with Sonic music. They seemed a little too obsessed with electronica and injecting their own original songs in the middle of the source material that honestly, I didn’t care about.
Another problem I have is that too many of the tracks are “sound effects” tracks. I don’t really like those. Keep music in the songs, leave sound effects out of it. But it seems like every other track has sound effects from the game put in there, making the songs seem very amateurish.
Also, four straight tracks covering the special stage music seems a bit unnecessary to me. It stinks of artists trying to put in filler to make the album longer. Granted, Sonic 1 didn’t have much music. Still, 4 different interpretations of special stage and nothing else is just plain annoying.
Finally, the songs all struck me as instantly forgettable. Come on, OC Remixers! Did you learn nothing from Project Chaos and what made it a great album? Not a single one of these songs really stands out.
