Monster Hunter Gets Simplified for iOS with Dynamic Hunting
Earlier this week, I discussed how the Monster Hunter series could be taken to the next level. Well… we’ll still have to wait to see how that goes. In the meantime, Capcom has announced Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunting, an iOS addition to the series that looks to take things in the exact opposite direction.
Dynamic Hunting appears to take a page from the Infinity Blade book (which had already taken a page from the Punch-Out!! book), boiling down the experience to simplified 1-on-1 battles. It’s strange to see such a deep game like Monster Hunter streamlined down to such a basic concept. Even the highly detailed behavioral tells have been scrapped in favor of a standard health bar. Still, we should all try to remember that this is a spinoff, not the next iteration. Who knows? Maybe it will be a gateway drug to ease in newcomers.
Capcom plans to release Monster Hunter Dynamic Hunting for iPhone and iPod touch in June. In the meantime, you can see video of the game (from Famitsu) below.

Michelle says:Dear me, I was prepared to be open minded about this, but it’s plainly obvious that this iteration has boiled down the core parts of what makes Monster Hunter challenging and unique (not to mention fun!) and made the entire premise utterly flat and uninspiring.

linthuslyth says:Wasn’t there another Monster Hunter game for mobile devices only for Japan? Well, regardless this doesn’t really look like Monster Hunter; not with those numbers and health bars popping up ever where. Also that tail attack being telegraphed like it’s a quick-time-event.

Adam "Heat Man" Anania says:*looks over past week of posts* So it’s finally the Monster Hunter and Mega Man Legends Homepage. MISSION COMPLETE.
Anyway I’m not surprised to see this kind of game. Monster Hunter is a pretty technical game, and touch screen devices can’t even perform 2D platformers that well.
Incidentally, this is probably closer to how other game companies would handle Monster Hunter.

Jonah "spambot" Gregory says:@Adam - WingDamage must be a reference to breaking the wings off creatures in Monster Hunter.
