0

Indie Royale Summer BundleIf you want to play a lot of games without dropping a lot of cash, there’s no better way than bundles. The latest great deal comes in the form of the Indie Royale Summer Bundle. By bidding at least the current minimum (below $6 as of this writing), you can get 8 games. Make a bid of at least $8 and get Pixeljams Volume 1 (normally $5 alone) added on top of your order.

This occasion also marks Rockin’ Android’s support of the Desura platform. Gundemonium Recollection, GundeadliGne, and Hitogata Happa (previously bundled in the Gundemonium Collection) make an appearance as well as the previously PSN-exclusive X-Edition of Acceleration Of Suguri. If you don’t sign up for Desura, you can still download the games directly.

Joining the Rockin’ Android lineup, you’ll find Harvest: Massive Encounter, The Journey Down: Chapter One, Serious Sam 2, and Dino Run SE. And as a special bonus, contributors will get access to the Steam beta of AirMech along with a special “Fleur de Lis” pet. The deal is for a limited time only, so hop on over to the Indie Royale site and grab The Summer Bundle while you still can.

Barrel Roll! #137 - “Now With Bears”

0

A regular Barrel Roll podcast is no longer enough. But what could we possibly do to up the ante? Bears, and lots of them!

This week, Adam Anania is back again, with more tales of magic and wonder. It appears that his 3DS has become self-healing. Can world domination be far behind?

In our “Games Played Over the Course of the Week” segment, Jonah and Wes played through the Rochard demo and found a pleasant mix of 2D puzzles and gravity guns. Wes discovered that he isn’t into the “constantly punch you in the face” genre, and returned Dark Souls quickly after renting it. He did the same with X-Men: Destiny, but for reasons of suckitude, not difficulty. After his 3DS’s miraculous return, Adam grabbed Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins. Both he and Jesse seem to agree that it holds up well. Jesse finished a playthrough of Hitogata Happa after figuring out its unique mechanics, and continued his questing in Solatorobo.

Not wanting to leave any colossi unslain, Jesse and Jonah finally finished Shadow of the Colossus. It only took them re-releasing it in HD for them to get around to it. Jonah also went back to Rock of Ages and managed to get over the weird difficulty bump on the Pestilence level.

The guys also discuss the new games of the week, and the video game news. All this plus more on Barrel Roll #137, “Now With Bears”!

Review: Gundemonium Collection (PC)

Gundemonium Collection

Gundemonium Collection may be over a year old, but it just released on Steam with a few new features. This package of doujin shmups contains Gundemonium Recollection, its sequel GundeadliGne, and their vastly different prequel Hitogata Happa.

The most obvious changes in the Steam version are the remixed soundtracks. They’re quite a step up from the originals thanks to the talent of DM Ashura and Woofle (Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania IIDX). You’ll also find a new online co-op mode for GundeadliGne allowing you to play with your Steam friends.

But I’m sure many out there haven’t had a chance to check out these games in the first place since they are a niche within a niche.

Both Gundemonium Recollection and Gundeadline are horizontal shooters with unusually large sprites. This allows for a lot of personality to be put into each character and enemy design. They often approach Cute ‘em Up territory with their goofy pumpkin enemies, Parodius-like women in bunny suits, and other equally wacky things. Of course, it’s all fun and games until somebody gets cut in half. (more…)
