Growing Up with 25 Years of Mega Man, One Series at a Time

I’ve been playing Mega Man almost as long as I’ve been playing video games. And I’ve been playing video games almost my entire life. The little guy’s been fighting evil for 25 years now. With any luck, he’ll mirror the longevity of pop culture icons like James Bond, living to celebrate his fiftieth.
But what IS Mega Man? Over the years, Mega Man has meant many things. Whether it’s side-scrolling action, competitive RPGs, or grandiose, 3D adventures, the Mega Man series has made its mark on the medium across an absurd amount of titles. Each have their strengths and their diehard fan bases.

Barrel Roll! #142 - “Innerspace: The Game”
There is only one way to bring about peace in the galaxy on this week’s Barrel Roll Podcast, and that is to go inside. That’s right, this week Jonah, Adam and Jesse are injected inside Martin Short thanks to a shrink ray experiment gone horribly awry.
While all the news is taken up by Black Friday Sales talk (which we skip), there are some new releases of note that we go over. We also take a good chunk of time talking about Rockman EXE: Phantom of Network and the Mega Man Battle Network games in general. Adam has also played through the 3D Classics version of Kirby’s Adventure and gives us his thoughts on the slight update to the NES classic.
Jonah has still been sucked into the world of Skyrim, but peeked his head out long enough to bust some caps in Saints Row The Third. It turns out the secret to its success? Infinite parachutes. That sounds kind of familiar…
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Jesse completed Super Mario 3D Land‘s main worlds and moved onto the much harder bonus worlds. He also played more on Ace Combat for Babies, or Ace Combat: Assault Horizon as it is better known. There was also some Uncharted 3 punch-time explosions involved.
All this plus more on the latest episode, Barrel Roll #142, “Innerspace: The Game”.

Sakura-Con 2010: Thoughts & Cosplay Gallery
I usually visit at least a couple cons each year. One of the cons that has been in my rotation for almost a decade is the Seattle-based anime convention, Sakura-Con. This year was no exception.
I headed down with my buddy as I always do and we took plenty of photos of the cosplayers, many of which were dressed as videogame characters.
Barrel Roll! #40 - “Podcast Weenies”
On a very special fortieth episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, Krishna Sadasivam from PC Weenies stops by to class up the joint. Krishna tells us about his history as a gamer, a cartoonist, and a family man.
The Mega Man Network Presents: The Mega Man Battle Network Remix Project
In the ever growing video game remix scene, one game’s soundtrack remains virtually untouched. Even Overclocked ReMix, the biggest vg remix community on the internet, doesn’t have a single arrangement from the highly underrated soundtrack of Mega Man Battle Network.
The Mega Man Network is making a point to change that. For the first time ever, TMMN is banding together to create an original remix album for the fans. The album will be completely free to download.
Right now, you can visit the project’s homepage and listen to three different samples, including one from yours truly. You can also check out info about all the people involved and keep up to date on the news page. And don’t forget to show your support on TMMN.
