Speculation: Capcom’s 2 E3 Mystery Games

"The back cover of Mega Man X8"
It’s no secret that I love Capcom. I have even started following their official Twitter. But as of late, these “tweets” are doing nothing but taunting me. Capcom has mentioned that they are announcing 2 new games at this year’s E3. One of them will be playable while the other will just be announced.
Tweets like “Reactions to Capcom E3 mystery game #1 yesterday: surprise, delight, enjoyment, more surprise,” and “Making exclusive, cool t-shirts for E3 for Capcom Mystery Game #1,” drive me crazy with curiosity. I cannot help myself. I feel an intense need to speculate these mystery games as I am convinced that at least one of them is an installment in an existing franchise.
The game I would like them to make more than anything in the world is, of course, Mega Man Legends 3. I have made this very clear in a previous article. I’m not getting my hopes up. However, my hopes were increased a bit when I read that a recent reader poll in Famitsu placed the series in the number seven slot (out of fifty) in a list of the most wanted sequels.
What I think is most likely to be shown is a new Strider game. About 6 months ago, there was a rumor that a new Strider game could be Capcom’s next series revival, taking the series into 3D with gameplay similar to Devil May Cry. This is something I could really get behind. Strider 2 (Arcade) was a great game. I would love to see the freedom that the wall/ceiling climbing allowed, translated into 3D. Even if it was another side-scrolling platformer, I would still be all for it, but I think that is less likely.
Another thing I would like to see is a fighter in the vein of the “Vs Series” that only used Capcom IPs. Games like Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Tatsunoko vs Capcom are great, but I usually end up using the Capcom side a lot more than the “fill in the blank” side. Capcom has a giant library of memorable franchises to pull from. They could make a very large roster of characters without having to use a second company’s IPs. Not only do they have several lesser known fighters to pull from (ie. Rival Schools, Plasma Sword, etc), they also have a lot of classic characters that we have not gotten a chance to pit against Ryu and Chun Li yet such as Arthur from Ghosts ‘n Goblins or Nathan “Rad” Spencer from Bionic Commando.
Those are my top choices of what I’d like to see. Now it’s time to hear from YOU! What existing Capcom franchise would you like to see another entry in? Tell us by commenting below!

Dynamo8 says:WOW, i hardly notice what it says on the back cover, but damn that is funny because it’s been like that since the very first Megaman series.
Anyways, as for the 2 new mystery games I don’t have high hopes for it being a Megaman game it’s that damn StarForce series thats leaving a bad taste in my mouth, even though i am a Megaman Fan myself. But i do believe they’re trying to revive another franchise perhaps? Strider, hopefully. . .

Russ "The Bus" Walsh says:In a perfect, happy world, someone at Capcom will be strolling around the office, when he sees a poor, disgruntled copy of God Hand sitting on a shelf.
“Oh Poor misbegotten game, I see your groans, your piteous sighs.” This kindly producer than takes the poor creature, making it stronger and healthier.
“A 1080p signal, a remastered soundtrack, oh wow, even creator commentary? You are growing up nice and strong again, little God Hand” says the kindly man.
A few months later, all the other games are going to the big Scary convention, E3! “You can’t go to that!” says the kindly old man. “You shall surely lose and not get any awards!”
But God Hand didn’t listen. He boldly left to the E3; but when he got there, no one gave him awards! Not IGN, not UGO, not even Kotaku gave him any awards. Poor God Hand began to cry; he had failed once, and now he was going to fail again.
But just then, a stranger walked up to God Hand. “Oh my, It’s god hand!” Everyone who hears runs in the direction of God Hand, proclaiming “God Hand is cool” and “God Hand is awesome.” Then the big boss at Capcom walks up and asks “You all like this game that much?” Every one shakes there head vigorously. “Okay then, put it on XBLA, or PSN, or Who cares? will just make another Resident Evil!” Everyone cheers and shouts, and God Hand lives happily ever after. The end

Jesse "Main Finger" Gregory says:It was confirmed last week that E3 Mystery Game #1 is actually the US release of Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Still no word on E3 Mystery Game #2. Really hoping it isn’t also something we already know about (ie Monster Hunter 3).
