After holding the world record in “number of times to announce Mega Man Legends 3” (via our podcast), we somehow willed the game into existence. Then, just like that, Capcom put its mouth up to our ear, as if to whisper a release date for the long awaited game, and shouted, “PSYCH!!”

Capcom gave the official word on the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 today on their blog. With the game still not greenlit, the prototype delayed indefinitely, and dev room blog updates slowing down to a trickle, the writing was certainly on the wall. Still, after over a decade of waiting for a sequel, it is a mighty blow to fans of the series.

With the cancellation of Mega Man Universe and Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune’s departure still fresh in mind, the news of Legends 3‘s death has led many to wonder what the future holds for the blue bomber. Maybe now we can get a Mega Man Legends Official Complete Works art book. Too Soon?

Want a 3DS, but don’t have the 250 bucks required to make it happen? No problem! The Mega Man Network has got your back, assuming you have what it takes. In an effort to spread the word about the Mega Man Legends 3 prototype (available on the eShop on June 6th), TMMN is giving out prizes to whoever can promote the title the most.

The most successful promoter will get a free Nintendo 3DS, the new D-Arts Rockman X figure, a Servbot Bobble Bud, and a Mega Man Legends 3 poster. Second and third place will get these prizes as well (minus the 3DS). Additionally, there are a few special prizes winners will be able to choose from including an alternate signed Mega Man Legends 3 poster and complete copies of Mega Man X and Mega Man 8. (more…)

Tonight, on a very special episode of Barrel Roll! A Videogame Podcast, Jonah has gone missing and it’s up to Jesse, Adam, and their rag tag crew of Mega Man Network staff to fill in the gaps.

"No seriously... we're not making it up this time."

We don’t normally cover any news on WingDamage (other than on the podcast), but today is different. As long time readers and listeners of the Barrel Roll! podcast are already aware, Mega Man Legends is a series that’s near and dear to us. We do everything we can to make sure a sequel will get in development from spreading the word about what makes the games great to posting a PSA to suggest it in Capcom Unity’s suggestion box.

Well it finally happened… seriously.

After over a year and a half of jokingly confirming Mega Man Legends 3 on our podcast, we’ll finally be able to confirm it for real on next week’s episode. E3 is finally over. Lots of exciting announcements were made as well as some not so exciting ones, WingDamage actually had somebody providing coverage this year, and people made fools of themselves dancing in front of cameras from the future. But what of our predictions? Did any of them come true?

As loyal readers and listeners of our podcast are all well aware, Mega Man Legends and Mega Man Legends 2 are both highly regarded here on WingDamage. The second game left on a cliff hanger. I mean, come on! We don’t just WANT a third game, we NEED a third game.

Fortunately, we have a new outlet for informing Capcom about our Mega Man Legends 3 demands. Capcom’s cleverly titled community site, Capcom Unity, has a new interactive feature currently in Beta appropriately named “The Suggestion Box“. Here Unity members can submit and vote on ideas for games and what not.

Due to the overwhelming number of requests I have received to do an article on this subject, I have been forced to do some research. Using an advanced scientific sounding process I have managed to find the best games that deserve sequels. My complicated and imaginary algorithm has also determined the best developers for said game. "The back cover of Mega Man X8"

It’s no secret that I love Capcom. I have even started following their official Twitter. But as of late, these “tweets” are doing nothing but taunting me. Capcom has mentioned that they are announcing 2 new games at this year’s E3. One of them will be playable while the other will just be announced.

Tweets like “Reactions to Capcom E3 mystery game #1 yesterday: surprise, delight, enjoyment, more surprise,” and “Making exclusive, cool t-shirts for E3 for Capcom Mystery Game #1,” drive me crazy with curiosity. I cannot help myself. I feel an intense need to speculate these mystery games as I am convinced that at least one of them is an installment in an existing franchise.

"Watch me outrun this van!"

Every gamer seems to be familiar with Mega Man, especially since the original series was finally rekindled with the release of Mega Man 9. Fewer, however, are familiar with his transition into the third dimension, and even out of those who did play one, or both, of the games contained in the Legends series (known as Rock Man Dash in Japan), only a portion of them responded to the game positively, while the rest weren’t able to accept such a complete and total change to the established Mega Man formula.

Needless to say, the fan-base for these 2 gems is unfortunately small in comparison to all the other games featuring the beloved “Blue Bomber”. But most of those who do appreciate it do so to a very high degree; begging for a third entry. So what is the deal with Mega Man Legends, and why should you care?
