Superlative Nintendo Entertainment System
Superlatives are interesting things. Even though most reduce down to simply “better” or “best”, countless hundreds have become mainstays of the English lexicon. Just pick up any thesaurus and take a look. Seriously, try it. Oh, and when you’re done, look up the word “lexicon”. You know what it means? Thesaurus. I know, right? It’s all so meta. So meta in fact, it’s beyond meta. Fun fact: Meta comes from a Greek root meaning “beyond”. What does all this have to do with the Super Nintendo you ask? You’ve got some nerve mister.
One day, way back in the summer of 1986, my friend Franklin called me and said he had just got something called a “Nine Ten Doetainment Sister” for his birthday and that he wanted me to come over and “play it”. I had no idea what he was talking about. I assumed Franklin was high (again) and was seeing ‘skin spiders’ (again). But you know Franklin, what a nut. Anyway, I didn’t really have any friends and I was intrigued at this whole ‘Doetainment Sisters’ idea. So over I went. Once there, I discovered two things: 1) Franklins’ parents had actually got him a “Nintendo Entertainment System” for his birthday and, 2) Franklin wasn’t high at all. He was drunk. Very, very drunk. Seriously kids, stay in school.
That summer Franklin and I played his NES (a term I just invented just now) until school started. I remember it well. There were so many games. My favorite? It was a tie. Between all of them. I found it to be an amazing toy game system. It was better than an Odyssey, taped to the back of a ColecoVision, stapled to an Atari 2600. But as often happens, time passed and Franklin and his NES (mostly the latter) grew apart. Little did I know at the time, but the best was yet to come.
How Did We Do? E3 2010 Prediction Results

E3 is finally over. Lots of exciting announcements were made as well as some not so exciting ones, WingDamage actually had somebody providing coverage this year, and people made fools of themselves dancing in front of cameras from the future. But what of our predictions? Did any of them come true?

On a very special episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, the guys hit up the ultimate Dojo of awesomeness and have a battle royal to the death in front of a giant creepy clown face.
In what we’ve been playing, Photo Dojo is declared the best game ever made (see above).
FOG Review: F-Zero (SNES)

"Back when Captain Falcon was known more for his racing than his punching."
“Friday Old Games” is a series of articles in which we review a game from the older generations of consoles, share why we picked it, and whether or not it holds up with time.
When the Super Nintendo released in North America, it launched with a mere five games. It may not seem like a lot, but these games were no slouches. The lineup consisted of Super Mario World, Pilotwings, Gradius III, Sim City, and F-Zero. Quite a strong launch, I’d say.
F-Zero in particular went on to have numerous sequels, as well as play a very influential role in the racing genre. But before all that, there was the original; a launch game for a system now two decades old.
Review: Wipeout HD (PS3)

"Is $20 really too much to ask for a solid, 1080p racing experience?"
It has basically become a running gag at this point that if anybody Jonah or myself come across mentions owning a PS3, we try to convince them to buy “Wipeout HD”. We feel we need to do everything in our power to get more people playing this game. Many people get scared off by a $20 price tag on a downloadable game, but is it really worth less because it’s not on a disc?
Monster Games Next Wii Project and Why I Love F-Zero GX

"I just died and went to racing heaven"
This is a little belated as far as news goes, but Monster Games, the team that made Excite Truck, is “nearly complete” on their next Wii game. Apparently it’s been in the works for about 2 years already. Their new project is under quite the “hush hush”, as they are dimming their monitors down when the water guy comes to drop off his latest batch of life juice. The obvious answer would be Excite Truck 2, but would that really require such secrecy? Seeing as how the company only seems to have racing games under its belt, speculation (and another year old rumor) points to Monster possibly working on a new F-Zero game.
As my bio page shows, F-Zero GX is my favorite racing game of all time. Also, I’m a huge fan of the series as a whole. In fact, the only F-Zero game I haven’t played is the add-on for the 64DD. I have even played F-Zero AX (Arcade), F-Zero 2 (Satellaview SNES add-on) and F-Zero Climax (Japan Only GBA). Because I hold the series in such high regard, the development possibly being in Monster’s hands, despite actually really liking Excite Truck, leaves me with some mixed feelings.
