Review: Lost Planet 2 (Xbox 360, PS3)

"ICED TO MEET YOU!"
Watching trailers of the original Lost Planet was what made me want an Xbox 360. When the game finally came out, it had its flaws, but I still loved it. When the sequel was revealed, I was very excited.
Lost Planet 2 takes place a decade after the original. This time around, the planets snowy regions have begun to melt, revealing jungles, deserts, and other areas. That’s both a good and a bad thing. On one hand, I really enjoyed the lonely ice planet of the first, but it is nice to have a little more variety in terrain this time around. You’ll even have some missions near the end that take place on a space station, complete with low gravity.
Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer Beta Impressions and HD Gameplay Video
There are a few new things on the horizon for WingDamage. One of these is HD video. Above, you’ll find a montage of gameplay footage recorded from one of my play sessions of the Lost Planet 2 multiplayer beta. This video is a bit of a guinea pig for video capturing, editing, and processing, so expect quality to increase with future videos.
At the beginning, you can see the basis of the weapon customization system. There are five categories to customize. The weapons dropped on the stage from your point of view will be based on those selections. For example, you might see a short range weapon drop. Depending on your settings, this will give you either a shotgun or a revolver. It’s a really interesting system that I look forward to seeing expanded on in the full game.
Barrel Roll! #62 - “Bird Chat: Top 10 Birds”
On a very special sixty-second episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, we discuss our Top 10 Birds of the Year (thus far). Sure, the goldfinch may have other outlets’ votes sealed up, but with their wingspan getting them solid 9′s across the board, the Blue Footed Bubi is putting up quite the show.

However, you might find a few games from Q1 that have snuck in thanks to delays. What you’ll see below is a collection of the WingDamage staff’s most anticipated Playstation 3 games of Q2 2010.

Capcom’s Big Reveal: Lost Planet 2
I’m not sure why I didn’t see this coming. I remember Capcom stating way back that they intended to make a sequel to Lost Planet, but when it was announced that they were going to have a big reveal on the Xbox Live Marketplace, this never even crossed my mind. I had completely forgotten about Lost Planet altogether, which is a little strange considering I actually really enjoyed it. I was hoping they would announce the rumored new Strider game. Even so, I am not disappointed.
