Sound in Action #3 – Modern Retro
On episode three of Sound in Action, the theme is Modern Retro. But what does that mean? Honestly, it varies a bit from song to song. But essentially you’ll hear music that was made recently that, on some level, is inspired by the past.
What’s that? A Mega Man Battle & Chase remix? Talk about synergy! There’s plenty of interesting selections here from Eschatos to Mega Man 10. Get downloadin’!

Review: Eschatos (Xbox 360 Import)
Before you ask why you should care about an imported Xbox 360 game, let me get this out of the way: Unlike most things on the system, Eschatos is a region-free game.
Importing games can get pricey, but sometimes it’s just worth it to do it anyway. If you are a fan of SHMUPs, Eschatos is one of those times.
Eschatos‘ mechanics are simple, but effective. You have three tools at your disposal: a straight shot, a wide shot, and a shield. The straight shot is powerful and travels across the entire screen while the wide shot is weaker and has a much shorter range, but allows you to take out multiple weaker enemies at once with ease. Giving you unlimited use of these two guns at all times instead of relegating them to a collectable power up system gives you a great sense of versatility as you play.
Barrel Roll! #114 - “Spacesassin’s Creed”
On this week’s “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, Jonah and Jesse are joined by Adam. But not that Adam.
The brothers Gregory have a special guest in the form of Adam “Tidegear” Milecki from Rockin’ Android. The three come together to discuss the hacking of PSN, revelations on the new Assassin’s Creed game, the 3DS Ware store, and lots more.
In “what we’ve been playing”, Jesse and Adam give us a breakdown of Eschatos, Judgement Silversword, and Cardinal Sins, three SHMUPs on one sweet imported 360 disc. All three of the guys have given Outland a try. Jonah gets his fight on with some Mortal Kombat and WWE All-Stars, and goes to his backlog for some Rocket Slime.
