Sound in Action #3 – Modern Retro
On episode three of Sound in Action, the theme is Modern Retro. But what does that mean? Honestly, it varies a bit from song to song. But essentially you’ll hear music that was made recently that, on some level, is inspired by the past.
What’s that? A Mega Man Battle & Chase remix? Talk about synergy! There’s plenty of interesting selections here from Eschatos to Mega Man 10. Get downloadin’!

The 10 Game Soundtracks of 2010 That Really Stuck With Me
Let me just get this out of the way. I hesitate to throw around terms like “the best soundtrack of 2010″ anymore because frankly, music is very subjective. I’m not trying to lay down “the facts” on which OST wins. Rather, my goal is to share with readers some of the soundtracks of 2010 that I personally enjoyed. If you’re favorite soundtrack isn’t discussed below, don’t take it personally.
With that said, I’d like to say a few words about my favorite soundtracks from last year. For your convenience, I’ve provided links on where you can purchase these soundtracks as well as a three minute “sampler” medley of each game, just to give you a taste of what to expect.
Let the music appreciation begin!

The Leftovers: Adam’s Picks
Not every game we love makes it into the WingDamage top 10. Some of them just don’t have enough unanimous support. These are what we like to call “The Leftovers.”
Picking one’s ten favorite games is no easy task. Especially in my case; just thinking of ten games I played over the year is pretty difficult. Despite my sometimes passionate sentiments towards games, I don’t think I’d consider myself an avid gamer. Heck, at least three games I bought last year I still have yet to play. Games are a waste of time, anyway!
But I do think I’m getting more into games, especially with the help of advice from friends. I did manage to play things here and there that were wonderful surprises, and I doubt I would have gotten into them otherwise. So, here are the top games that wasted my time in 2010.

Barrel Roll #64 - “Gone Hunting”
On a very special sixty-forth episode of Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast, we were way too busy playing Monster Hunter Tri to play any other games.
OK, that is only a half truth. We did try to squeeze in some Super Street Fighter IV and Mega Man 10 DLC while we were at it.
Barrel Roll! #61 - “The Cat Stole My Caterpie”
On a very special sixty-first episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, Jonah’s PokéWalker has been stolen by his cats, who then proceeded to put it up on eBay. Just search for “Jonah’s PokéManswalker”.
On what we’ve been playing, Russ joins us to show us his PokéMans, Jesse talks Mega Man 10 DLC and Final Fantasy XIII, Jonah has been playing Uncharted 2 and finally finished Resident Evil 5, and Wes has thrown down with some UmJammer Lammy.
Barrel Roll! #58 - “We Have to Catch Them. All of Them.”
On a very special fifty-eight episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, Jesse, Jonah, and Adam try to catch them all. It ends tragically.
In “The Games We Played Since Last Time”, Jesse and Adam mock Mega Man 10′s easy mode, Jesse gets even more in-depth with Final Fantasy XIII, and Adam tries out the Monster Hunter Tri demo. It turns out he is actually digging this one, and it is sounding more and more like we’ll have a team with which to hunt monsters come April.
Barrel Roll! #57 - “Detective Space Glasses”
On a very special fifty-seventh episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, it’s up to Detective Space Glasses and his awesome Space Glasses to once again save the universe from impending destruction at the hands of Xargon and his anti-Space Glasses task force.
Review: Mega Man 10 (WiiWare, PSN, XBLA)

"More faux retro goodness from Capcom."
When Mega Man 9 was revealed, it was a huge surprise. Going back to the visuals and gameplay of the NES era was a bold move. Generally, the response was positive. But with 9 already out, will Mega Man 10‘s continued use of the faux retro design feel as welcome?
Those who played the last entry will know what they’re getting into as far as the format goes. Eight new robot masters, new stages, and of course, new weapons. But there are a few new features this time around. Proto Man is available right from the start instead of being released as paid DLC. Those hungering for the charging and sliding abilities Mega Man left behind in his retro reboot might feel more at home with him.
Barrel Roll! #56 - “The Mega Man Tenisode”
On a very special fifty-sixth episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, Jesse and Adam hijack the show to talk about Mega Man 10. I don’t know what it is, but those two really like that little blue robot.
I was all like, “What about Heavy Rain?” And Adam was all, “More like watching a movie with quick time events. Burn!”
Then I cried a single tear.
Barrel Roll! #50 - “Adventuring Is Around An Corner!!!”
On a very special fiftieth episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, we are joined by two amazing guests.
Returning for the second time is “Number One Super-Fan”, Russ Walsh, to tell us all about Cave Story, probably. We also have the first appearance of Adam “Heat Man” Anania from The Mega Man Network. He is here to tell us all about the site, CES, and Mega Man 10.
