Have you ever played a game that is actually playing you?

That is the claim that Silent Hill: Shattered Memories makes when you first boot it up. It starts with a “Psychological Warning” that the game will be profiling you as you play it. It is an interesting way to open a game, and is the developers way of letting you know you are in for a unique experience.

As a reader of comic books, and a fan of the Batman universe in general, I have been waiting a long time for a game starring the Dark Knight that was worth playing. Sure, there were a few games I enjoyed back in the day, like the NES game simply titled Batman and The Adventures of Batman & Robin for the SNES, but every venture into the realm of 3D has ended poorly.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is Capcom’s latest Wii exclusive rail-shooter and the follow up to 2007′s Umbrella Chronicles. You and a friend (or artificial intelligence in single player) will each take on the role of one of the Resident Evil franchise’s established characters as you set out to unload rounds into zombies and other strange creatures.

The Darkside Chronicles features approximately twenty stages spread out over three scenarios: Memory of a Lost City (Resident Evil 2), Game of Oblivion (Resident Evil Code: Veronica), and Operation Javier. The game begins and ends with Operation Javier which, unlike the other scenarios, is an original story (starring Leon Kennedy and Jack Krauser) not based on an existing game.

Punch-Out!! has always been a very simple game. The camera sits right behind your character, Little Mac, as you face off against somebody who probably shouldn’t be in the same weight class. You have four attacks that consist of high and low punches with your left and right arms. You can dodge left, right and down, as well as block. There is also a “Star Punch” that can be performed causing extra damage, provided you have a star handy.

Can a game with so few actions compete with the complex beasts of modern gaming? Can a Punch-Out!! remake capture all the things that made its predecessors great while at the same time improving upon the series? Can a Wii game have both great graphics and fun, responsive motion controls? The answer to all these questions is a resounding yes.

One of the bigger disappointments in gaming over the last several years, for me, has been the lack of new and creative adventure games. They are finally starting to get a small comeback through the efforts of companies like Telltale Games, but for some of us, they never really went anywhere.

The independent gaming scene has seen adventure games flourish. Many fan projects have been started, and many have died, never to be finished. I find it even more exciting when an original IP comes along that can give you not only an entertaining game, but a big dose of nostalgia to boot. Enter Zombie-Cow Studios, home of “Ben There, Dan That“.
