Sound in Action #6 - Viva la Vocals

Some people would like to believe I record this podcast up in a tree fort with a cardboard sign on the door that reads, “No vocals allowed.” To them I present the sixth episode of the game music podcast, Sound in Action. 100% vocals. 100% awesome.

In this episode I take a look at vocal tracks from games as obscure as the cancelled version of Ragnarok Online 2 to as publicly appreciated as the indie darling, Bastion. There’s an unintentional consistency in style between many of the tracks, but music from Gravity Rush, Xenosaga II, and NieR come to the rescue with their wonderfully unusual sound.

Review: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (Wii)

"This screenshot pretty much tells you everything you need to know."

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers may share the Crystal Chronicles name with three multiplayer action RPGs, but other than taking place in the future of the same universe, it has almost nothing to do with the previous games; at least not in terms of gameplay. Instead, it is a singleplayer game that’s quite unlike anything I’ve ever played, and is frankly quite bizarre.

It’s no secret that I am obsessed with videogame music. I even remix it in my spare time. Working a desk job, I end up listening to soundtracks throughout large portions of the day, and I enjoy sharing music with others who might otherwise not hear the songs I love so much. But there are far too many fantastic composers for me to cover in a single article. So to remedy this, I’m going to focus on my one true love… the ladies!

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time Review (Wii, DS)

“Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time” is the follow up to last year’s “Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates“. I’m not sure what the deal is with all these ridiculously long game titles, lately. Regardless, Echoes of Time makes a lot of improvements from the last entry in the series, establishing itself as a stronger multiplayer title, though the game is far from flawless.

Excite Bots Trick Racing Wii Super Sandwich Barrel Roll Video Game Podcast WingDamage.com

On a very special eleventh episode of “Barrel Roll! - A Video Game Podcast”, Jesse and Jonah tells us the wonders of “Excite Bots: Trick Racing” for the Wii. It’s not just racing, it’s sandwich making. “Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time” turns out not to just have a ludicrously long title, but to be the FFCC game we’ve been waiting for. As it turns out “Rock Revolution” is not worth the $10 price point it has been discounted to. Orange Box and Steam are both awesome, but you already knew that, and it turns out we like the PSP… in theory.

Multiplayer DS Games for a Portable Good Time

"If you're in a line long enough to require sitting, this knowledge is a must!"

If you’re anything like me, you like to engage in certain activities that involve waiting in line. Whether it be for a concert, an event at a convention, or opening night at the latest summer blockbuster, lines can seem like a never ending train of boredom without the right tools to help pass the time.

For the group of friends (or sometimes even strangers) who never leave the house without their trusty iteration of the Nintendo DS, I have put together a modestly sized list of some of my personal favorite multiplayer titles. They are in no particular order and include both old and new releases.
