The Barrel Roll crew returns this week with their hundred-and-third showstravaganza. The guys took a week off for the first time ever while Jonah and his wife were busy having a million babies.

This week, Jesse gives us the details on The Last Story (Japanese Import) and Goldeneye for the Wii. Adam fills us in on why he couldn’t get his head around Mass Effect 2 while Jonah weeps softly in the background. He also talks about Bionic Commando ReArmed 2, which picks us right back up again. Jonah fills us in on the wizard-filled Magicka and also reports his pile of shame progress in the original Assassin’s Creed.

In a real life fight, some people will scratch, claw, bite, and pull hair in order to win. They will use whatever tools will give them an advantage, regardless of how unfair it might be. These are the type of people whose first move in combat will always be the kick to the groin. These are the type of people that always have an over-shield in Halo or an RCP 90 in Goldeneye.

To some, they are cheap bastards, to others they are simply taking advantage of what the game provides.

"Old School"

As Ciandi has pointed out, online gaming has vast potential to connect us all in crazy new ways. Xbox Live, and to a lesser extent the Playstation Network have completely changed the gaming landscape. I have spent hours crushing guys from Germany in Burnout: Revenge. I have witnessed 8 strangers working together as one perfect unit to crush alien scum in Resistance 2.

So why am I defending something old and antiquated like split screen multiplayer? Click past the break, adventurous reader, to find out.

“Friday Old Games” is a series of articles in which we review a game from the older generations of consoles, share why we picked it, and whether or not it holds up with time.

Due to overwhelming demand, a federal court order, and a purple nurple, I have been forced to go back and examine one of the crown jewels of gaming’s yesteryear, Goldeneye.

Before frat boys were learning the intricacies of system linking their Xboxes and Pierce Brosnan was the hot new Bond, Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64 set the world on fire (in a good way). Millions of gamers discovered the joy of shooting their friends in the face.

Just about every game has a weapon of some kind, most are interchangeable, some are entirely forgettable. However, there are some weapons that stand out, that people talk about long after the cartridge has gone into the closet and the disc is all scratched up. These are the weapons that transcend their utility to become works of art.
