Barrel Roll #167 - "Omega Tom Hanks"

Lock the doors, board up the windows, and hide your loved ones. Omega Tom Hanks is coming to town and he’s bringing his entire balance-destroying moveset with him.

Before the Hanksocalypse, Jesse Gregory, Adam Milecki, and Mike Bachmann huddled together to chat about video games for their last moments on Earth. Adam and Jesse obsess over XCOM: Enemy Unknown and spread a little more Tokyo Jungle love (this time with co-op!). Mike gives us the lowdown on EA Origin’s coupon debacle while telling us about Mugen, the open fighting engine that’s over a decade old.

All this and other random crap on Barrel Roll #167 - “Omega Tom Hanks”.

Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast

On episode one-oh-one of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, Jonah, Jesse, and Adam come together to discuss the latest hot jams, like Mass Effect (the first one), Burnout Revenge, and Earth Defense Force 2017. They also go back for some unfinished 2010 gaming business with Dragon Quest IX and Valkyria Chronicles 2. Bringing it back to the present day, Adam discusses Ghost Trick and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.

We also talk about the new game releases of the week and news, then read a fan letter.

heatman2

On a very special fifty-second episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, we are joined once again by The Mega Man Network’s own Adam “Heat Man” Anania. He throws down with some old school flavor on Zelda II: The Adventures of Link and Little Samson for the NES.

Wes returns with more tales of the iPhone and the adventure games he has been playing there; namely Broken Sword: Director’s Cut. Jesse finished Dark Void and Assassin’s Creed II, and also started on the anime/dog fighter, The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces. More importantly to #1 Super Fan, Russ Walsh, he has imported and tells us all about Game Center CX: Arino no Chousenjou 2 (aka Retro Game Challenge 2, if it ever came out in the states).

Review: Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360, PC)

mass-effect2-cover

Last May, I finally got around to finishing the original Mass Effect. This was mostly so I could do a write-up on the game for WingDamage.

Boy, am I ever glad I did. As I mentioned in that review, I was very interested to see how things were going to shake out in the sequel. Bioware had mentioned that you would be able to transfer your save file from the original game into Mass Effect 2. What I thought that meant was that your character would look the same and maybe a few key decisions would carry over. The reality blew my mind.

So What Did You Get?

"Fat Stacks (of games)"

Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year, has now come and gone. Its follow-up, the invented by online retailers Cyber Monday is officially over.

While I didn’t brave the big box retailers, I did take advantage of many online deals. I ended up picking up Borderlands, Left 4 Dead, and Lucidity from Steam, and Mass Effect from Direct2Drive. I even snagged a copy of Resident Evil 5 from the very limited supply Amazon posted up on Monday.

Now I have lots of stuff to get through and hopefully get some reviews up in the next few weeks. But what I really want to know it, how about you? What deals did you take advantage of, game related or otherwise?

"This Sword On My Head Means I'm Invisible"

On a very special thirty-sixth episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, we get the crew together once again to discuss the games we have been playing, the latest news, a movie about LARPing, and announce the final in our series of PAX Pack giveaways.

The crew this week consists of Jesse, Jonah, Brittany, Luke and Nate. Jesse has finally finished up Batman: Arkham Asylum and has a thing or two to say about it (don’t worry, it’s spoiler free). Luke gives us the rundown on the metaltastic Brutal Legend while Brittany has been relaxing with Harvest Moon: The Tree of Tranquility. Nate finally got around to finishing Mass Effect and we all have a good laugh about space marines and their stupid haircuts.

Fashionably Late Review: Mass Effect (Xbox 360)

Mass Effect Review Xbox 360 WingDamage.com

We all have those games that we miss the first time around. With the busy release schedule of modern gaming, no one has time to play everything. That is why we at WingDamage present to you “Fashionably Late Reviews“. This is our series on games from the current generation of consoles that we may have missed on their initial release, but have gone back to experience now.

Bioware has a history of making very deep role playing games in a variety of settings. Ever since Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), many fans have wanted to see what they could accomplish in a science fiction world of their own creation.

Mass Effect is the result. Here they have created their own sci-fi mythology, complete with political intrigue, cool alien races, space ships, and the imminent end of the universe.

by Russ Walsh

by Russ Walsh

On a very special episode of Barrel Roll! - A Video Game Podcast, Jonah has finally finished playing Mass Effect. Welcome to 2008, ass!

Jesse is still trying to finish Sir Togsef, the off-the-wall juggle-combo-tastic RPG for the DS. Wesley, once again guest hosting, has been fending off zombies invading his garden in Popcaps’ new “Plants VS Zombies”. It turns out those guys know how to make an addictive game. Meanwhile Brittany has picked up Personal Cooking Trainer on the DS, which is an electronic cook book, and not a game at all! She also started playing Odin Sphere again.
