Barrel Roll #155 - “Adam is (Probably) A Robot”
This week on show, Jonah and Jesse are joined by two returning champions of guest hosting, Adam Milecki, who may or may not be a robot, and Wesley Johnson. After shooting the breeze about remix contest and albums you should definitely go check out, they get right into the video games discussion.
First up is Skullgirls, the indie fighting game from Autumn Games that dropped on XBLA and PSN last week. Then Adam and Jesse have an in-depth discussion on Kid Icarus: Uprising. After the break we unfortunately lose Adam due to his suddenly getting down with the sickness. But the show must go on and Jesse gives his thoughts on Asura’s Wrath and how much he wishes there was a game there. Jonah has actually played a new game, Legend of Grimrock, even though it plays like an old game. He also finally gave in and bought the Rock Band 3 keyboard bundle he has been putting off since the game’s initial release nearly two years ago. Before he falls asleep (it was approaching 2am on his end), Wes gives us his thoughts on Fallout: New Vegas.
All this and more random banter on Barrel Roll #155 - “Adam is (Probably) A Robot”.

The Increasing Disposability of Gaming
We are in that time of year which traditionally gives gamers a break. A break from the seemingly endless stream of high-profile, triple-A titles from the industry’s biggest publishers. Many use this time to catch up on their backlogs, like our friends over at SideQuesting. Others, whom I can only guess are younger gamers with a lot of free time on their hands, don’t really know what to play during this slow period. Maybe they use this time to get even better at [insert popular FPS here]?
It has given me a chance to take a step back and reflect on my habits as a gamer and how they relate to the industry as a whole. Video games have become increasingly disposable as entertainment. As soon as you finish one title (or more often than not, before you even get a chance to really dig into the game you just purchased), there are ten more waiting on the shelves vying for your hard earned cash.
Media coverage is all around us as citizens of the internet. The big gaming blogs generally can’t linger on any one title because they work in a medium that is only rewarded when things are kept fresh on their home page. That isn’t a dig at what they do, it is just the nature of the beast. Core gamers are more than happy to jump from game to game every week. I find this odd considering the cost of new games has been in the $35 to $60 range this entire console generation, and those price points are driven even higher with special editions.
Review: Fallout: New Vegas (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
The Mojave wasteland is a dangerous place. It’s full of giant mutated animals, raiders, and warring factions, all vying for the same small pieces of dust that are still livable. In other words, it’s just an average day in the Fallout universe.
This time around, Obsidian Entertainment is at the helm, and their team has some of the guys from the original PC Fallout games. While I’ve only briefly experienced the first two games, I was very interested to see what they would bring to the table for Fallout: New Vegas.
Barrel Roll! #91 - “Nerrrrrrrruto!”
On a very special ninety-first episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, it’s all ninja fighting, all the time. The guys step it up a notch with their chi powers and fireballing as they fight… I don’t know… let’s say Goku. He’s going down!
In our weekly segment about the games we’ve been playing, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is discussed by Jesse and Jonah. Jesse also fills us in on what’s new and awesome in the Split/Second: Quarry Onslaught DLC. Adam is still addicted to Minecraft and Jonah finally finished Fallout: New Vegas. There is also some talk of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow when we ponder whether or not it feels like Castlevania.
All this plus the new games hitting stores this week and the news on this, your Barrel Roll showpod.

Barrel Roll! #90 - “Dr. Dolphin Form, PhD”
On a very special ninetieth episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, the dolphin doctor is in, and he has a prescription for a fun blast.
What we’ve been playing this week involves Kirby in his many forms, dolphin doctor included, in Kirby’s Epic Yarn (not Yam, as Jesse would have us believe). We also talk a little about Fallout: New Vegas, Super Meat Boy, Vanquish, and DJ Hero 2.
The new Kinect games are discussed, as well as the other new games this week, and in the news Jesse and Adam’s hearts are broken by one Keji Inafune leaving Capcom. All this and much more on the latest podshow.

Barrel Roll! #89 - “You Can Draw Things On the Screen (I Guess)”
On a very special eighty-ninth episode of “Barrel Roll! A Video Game Podcast”, the guys learn to draw right on their DS screens. Though in hindsight, they probably shouldn’t have been using permanent marker.
In “what we’ve played on computer and video game consoles”, Jesse has been playing through the action-shooter Vanquish, while Jonah gets his strategy game on in both Game Dev Story and Civilization V. He also talks a little about Fallout: New Vegas, but at the time had barely started on his wasteland journey.
Adam is back to talk about Angry Birds and Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Wes also joins us to talk about the new Alan Wake DLC, The Writer.
